What sorts of tests will I have on this Course?

Written test

The non restricted course will have a multiple choice and true and false written exam. There are 50 questions and you are required to get at least 40 of them correct. I have to be honest, if you want to learn and pass the course and follow the manual I will pretty well guarantee you will get at least 90%. I have had so many people having never touched a firearms do excellent in the course and passed with high 90's marks. This testing usually takes no more than 20 minutes but you have an hour to complete this if needed.

If you can either pick up a manual ahead of the course from me or download one off of the RCMP webpage you can read up ahead of time and instead of trying to understand every question you can then relax a bit and treat it like a review. You will be given a handbook as part of the course to keep for future reference. If you down load it do not print it as you will receive a hard copy from me.

Practical hands on Test

First of all - Dont get intimidated - if you are reading this before taking the course it will seem a massive undertaking. Once we teach you the process of safe gun handling, it will take no longer than 3 to 4 minutes to complete this long winded activity on each firearm. Everytime you practice this you will get faster and faster. It will truly become second nature to you.

The hands on test is administered individually to each person so it helps you not get nervous from doing this in front of the entire class. You will  be asked to pick up several different firearms that are placed in the dangerous condition with the action closed and no safety activated.

You will be asked to pick up a possibly dangerous firearm with a closed possibly loaded chamber.

Classroom hands-on training will prepare students for the test which will be exactly what you have already gone through. You will learn and be proficient at picking up one of the firearms. Activating the safety and PROVE it safe (that it is unloaded). You will be able to Identify the ammunition used and be able to identify the ammunition out of the provided collection and insert it into the firarm magazine and then load it into the firearm prepare it for firing.

At this stage we need to show your ability to safely unload and clear the firearm and prepare it for storage or transport in your vehicle to your home or storage location. It may seem very overwhelming but you will be very comfortable with this. I have taken so many people young and old, Male,  Female, 12 yr. old youth and seniors with no experienced to successful completion of the course. If you have interest and a good attitude you can pretty much guaranteee a pass of the training.
