What is a PAL? and why do I need one?

In Canada any person wishing to be in possession of a non restricted firearms or ammunition must possess a P.A.L referred to a possesion and aquisition license. The license allows you to be in physical possession of a Non restricted firearm and ammunition. The firearm generally will be used for sporting purposes such as hunting or target shooting. Firearms can also be used for the protection of livestock etc.

In order to obtain a license you must first attend and pass the official CANADIAN FIREARM SAFETY COURSE.  To apply for your PAL, you must show successful completion of Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC). After this an applicant must complete an application, undergo a background check, and submit a photo for ID to the Canadian Firearms Center for review and approval. Once this is complete you will receive a license by mail.
